Small businesses are going under by the dozens daily in this difficult economy, but there are many free or minimal cost marketing ideas for small business. Little shops may continue to fail as retailers such as Walmart and Target continue to battle it out for market domination by offering stupidly low prices on everything from clothing to electronics to food.
When small businesses become a victim of this unbeatable competition, people lose their livelihoods and communities lose precious resources.
Hence how is a small business to remain afloat in these difficult times?
Individuals with a bricks and mortar business have their battle cut out for them, particularly if they sell anything which is sold by these giant chains.
So to sell the product successfully, you have to be an expert and unique in what you do and supply the best customer service to draw in and keep customers.
Look at what the major chains are doing, customer service is a thing of the past, their stores all look the same and if they don’t have what you need, you are stuck. Local businesses are what make a community and folks who have chosen to start their own businesses have a taste for what they do and they really like to help.
Its outstanding how many small businesses do not consider it wise to have a website. They probably do not know that Google essentially loves small business and always will pull a small business to the top of a search page, simply by somebody putting in the name of a city and whatever they are looking for.
This is an enormous advantage to a business owner. There are always local directories, for example thru the local Chamber of Commerce, where you can list your site for a small charge or free.
Beginning and maintaining a website is not complicated or expensive, these days a tasty WordPress site can be built in less than two hours all it costs is monthly hosting and a domain name charge.
On a local strip, I recently asked eleven small business owners if they owned an internet site and only one responded yes. If you want to launch your own business, the market is wide open to help these folks out and make yourself a great living, I just wish I had the time.
All a small local business needs is a Google map of where they are , a page explaining what they do, a section that gives opening hours and contact data, some great photographs and maybe a record of the business and that’s it!
Add an opt in box and a once per month newsletter can go out, coupons can be distributed and sales announced. With the addition of some affiliate advertising the site can basically make the business owner some money even after covering the minor costs.
Small businesses has very large task on their hands. They have much larger competition and must employ S.E.O and a lot of other promoting strategies, especially to make a list of subscribers.
A website’s search engine ranking reflects on a number of things:
- the age of the site
- the consistency with which it is updated
- the value of its content
- the relevancy of its content
- the quantity of back-links it has
Just like a small business, an internet site should offer helpful information, great shopper service and brand itself as being unique. It’s all about attraction marketing.
